I can't say what sunsets would be like in the Prairies. All those vibrant colours washing over those amber waves of grain, to quote the song. But I live here on the West Coast, in Vancouver. To understand what sunsets are like in Vancouver you have to picture the ocean, and the mountains, the glimmer of the city in between--breath-taking, to say the least. I work in a sawmill on the major river here in BC. I used to work swing shift (2 weeks of dayshift; 2 on the afternoon shift.) I've always had jobs that afforded me the time to enjoy both the sunrise, as well as the sunset. I would stop driving my machine and look directly at the coastal mountains just to watch the sun come up behind me and wash the mountains in colour. It only lasts a minute, but there is that heart-stopping moment when the snow is pink, the mountains blue, and the crenellations of rock lost in shadows. I don't take pictures, because I don't have a phone. Instead, I let the image become a part of me, and tell myself that I can't wait for tomorrow to come, and watch it all over again.
