There is truth and pretense happening here. From an outlier's position and someone that just does not care about politics, it is bizarre to watch what the American Culture has evolved into. Empathy and integrity have been bred out. Critical thinking is almost nonexistent. It is not "Trumpian Thinking", it is what the culture here is and has been, long before politicians started using social media like their citizens do. -You have to speak to the people in their language, and these days if it is not on social media, it is not heard. I think it is laughable how everyone can be so easily controlled. Coming from the UK, you should know how media can direct simple minded people into believing.. well, anything. And being your business as a writer, you are informing people of your beliefs as well. Politics are not the driving force behind me leaving the US, that would be as shallow as blaming one man for all the problems of a nation. It is the idiocracy of the American people and American culture as a whole that will drive out the people unwilling to assimilate.
My first idea was to call this idea "anti-critical thinking" because Trump comes with so many pre-conceptions but he is such a good example of what I'm talking about, it became "Trumpian Thinking". You're right though, this has been something that has been happening for a long, long time.

I get it... you have to speak in terms that people can understand, but also realizing that "anti-critical thinking" is probably not the term that does it. I also understand that putting Trump's name in anything will create clicks by readers on both sides of the love/hate divide.
I just feel we cannot grow as a culture or as people if we cannot stop inserting him everywhere. We need to get him out of our minds and out of our speech, before it becomes who "we" are. We need to use other examples, other effective people to convey a message, otherwise we are no better than the rest. Look at America and you will see that our politicians are a reflection of our people. Now take a real look a the people and you will see that the divide is the culture here. Trump might be such a good example, but he is the an example of the American people. Your example is the American culture in whole. (Sorry, this grosses me out) lol
I think probably even longer than that. I toyed with calling this idea something else, but he perfectly encapsulates the sentiment. Calling it "anti-critical thinking" (my original idea) just didn't have the same ring to it!
Perhaps some folks are not articulate, and so a sound bite covers it for them. Obviously these problems and concerns are complex and multidimensional. There are no easy solutions or they would have been solved by now.

I can relate...

It's why we left. How about calling X eXecrable?
Quite!!
I would think America has been post-truth for at least 15 years before Trump, and that's just my adult experience. He is more symptom, less cause.

Perceptive, insightful and bang on the money Charlie 👍
