Tell Me What You Want from Simple and Straightforward (I Wanna Know)
Would you answer a few questions so I can make Simple and Straightforward an even better experience?
Good morning / afternoon / evening, friends! Today’s Friday Dispatches is going to look a little different. I’m turning the microphone around and asking you, my readers, some questions to help shape future Simple and Straightforward content.
This publication has grown immensely in the last six months. I want to keep that momentum going. But as with all writing projects like this one, sometimes it’s hard to know if I’m heading in the right direction. If what I’m writing is hitting the mark with you.
This is your chance to tell me.
I’ve got 6 simple questions for you to answer below. And if there is anything else you want to see more of, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments or email me at charliebrownwriter@gmail.com.

First, I’d love to get a sense of what sort of content you enjoy. Is it the essays? Would you like to see more practical how-to guides? What about the food content at The Capsule Pantry?
What about the topics? Do they hit the mark? My writing tends to fall into:
Simple living and minimalism
Travel and what travel can teach you about living a simpler life
Finances and how to structure them more effectively
Culture and society and how it affects the way we live our lives
What do you like the most?
Next, you may or may not know that S+S has a “food supplement” called The Capsule Pantry (TCP) which is sent to paid subscribers every Wednesday. Much like a capsule wardrobe, TCP invites you to live with around 52 base ingredients in your pantry, from which you can make thousands of dishes. Every dish I write about is highly flexible and I suggest adaptations for each recipe. The idea is to make you a more creative cook, save money and reduce food waste.
Whether you’re a paid subscriber or not, I’d love to know - does TCP interest you?
Next, I’ve been having a think about including new types of content. What do you reckon about the following ideas?
Finally (and thank you for staying with me so far) a question for paid subscribers, or people who are thinking about going paid.
I send out three mailouts a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Does this frequency work for you?
Phew, that’s it!
First, thank you in advance to any of you who respond. Your answers are going to shape the future of Simple and Straightforward because I want to make it a publication that works for you.
Second, if you have any comments or suggestions whatsoever, please let me know. If you’re dying for me to cover a certain topic or feel I’m missing something, just shout. Or email me at charliebrownwriter@gmail.com if you prefer.
Finally, if you’re on the fence about going paid, let me sweeten it up for you with 30% off a subscription which makes it $35 a year or $3.50 a month (offer available until the end of April).
Thanks, friends - I can’t wait to see your responses!
Love this and thanks for the invitation Charlie. I’ve answered. I think that most weeks I could read 3 but actually I often need a visual break or for posts to be shorter... I’m sure that’s personal though and depends on the time of day I’m reading. Love all you do.
I want to travel slowly in Europe. I want to be able to spend very little on hotels and food and yet still be comfortable. I am looking for more information about how you move from place to place and handle these expenses. How do you decide where to stay in towns you have no experience with? I understand that having a kitchen and cooking meals is the way to go, but we still have to know how to get to markets and what is located where.
