Seeing as I travel full-time — sometimes staying in places for months at a time and returning frequently — it was only a matter of time before I found a way to shoehorn travel writing into Simple and Straightforward.
And found a way, I have.
Welcome to my Simple Travel Guides for the (ahem) simple traveler.
Here’s how it’s going to work.
The travel guides will be a largely paid subscriber perk. The first one however — a simple guide to Split, Croatia — will be available to everyone. You’ll see this hit your inbox shortly.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sending out guides focused on:
Split, Croatia
Barcelona, Spain
Rome, Italy
Porto, Portugal
Zagreb, Croatia
I’m also toying with the idea of a few more off-the-beaten-track places. If you like the idea of any of the below, let me know:
Logroño, Spain (my home for 6 months, I REALLY want to write this one!)
Bucharest, Romania
Jerez, Spain
These are places I know extremely well. Most of them are also big, sometimes difficult to navigate cities where it’s easy to go wrong. To squeeze too much in. To find it overwhelming.
My guides won’t tell you how to pack in a fortnight’s worth of sightseeing into 48 hours. It will not tell you about the “must-see” things you “should” do whilst you’re in the city.
That’s not the way I roll.
Instead, it’ll tell you the best neighborhoods to simply amble about in. Simple things to do. The best places to get a decent glass of wine or craft beer based on my decade of wine trade shenanigans. Where to buy produce to cook at your apartment. A few places to eat well and not get ripped off. I’ll send you to my mates’ bars and restaurants. The best specialty coffee spots. Neighborhoods that are actually delightful to stay in. I know. I’ll have stayed in them.
Ultimately, they’ll tell you how to soak up a city, not just see the big sights and leave.
Split is incoming. For the rest, grab your S+S subscription (which includes access to everything I write, not just the travel guides) here:
I can't wait to read these! Having spent most of a day with Charlie and her husband in Barcelona, I highly recommend subscribing. She's a good traveler!
I can not wait to read these!!
